Book Week 2017 Escape to Everywhere

Each year Book Week brings children and books together in a celebration of children’s literature. Join us in the Discovery Space from 22 – 27 August for a week of reading, playing and learning as we explore this year’s theme: Escape to Everywhere!

 

Free Activities
Story time: Books can be enjoyed anywhere and everywhere, but in the Book Nook this week we’ll be reading the six books shortlisted by the Children’s Book Council of Australia to be Book of the Year! Which one is your favourite?

Passport Books
Pick up your passport from reception and travel around the Discovery Space, collecting stamps from different activities and experiences! Record your day and draw your favourite things to remind you of your Book Week adventure.

Escape to Everywhere
Join us in the Pod for the journey of a lifetime! Travel around the world in an immersive media experience, exploring different aspects of our amazing planet from the plains of the Serengeti to the skyline of New York. If you see something you like, why not pick up a book and learn more?

Public Programs: Get creative, tell stories, and play with words with a range of FREE public programs this Book Week!

Story Stones
Work in a group to tell a story with the Discovery Space’s Story Stones! Pick different stones from the bag and let your imagination run wild in explaining what happens next in our constantly evolving communal story times.

Face Painting
Take on whatever role you want and express yourself with face painting out in the Discovery Space gardens! From beautiful fairy princesses to terrifying dragons, our wonderful Discovery Guides will be on hand to help transform you.

Make a Marble Maze
Build a maze with LEGO and try to get a marble through it! Are you smart enough to build a maze so hard not even you can do it?

Shapes & Shades
Get up and moving to learn all about different colours and shapes! Reinforce the words we use to describe our world while exploring your body’s full range of motion.

Craft:
Embark on exciting adventures in craft along the lines of this year’s Book Week theme – Escape to Everywhere!

Ye Olde Mappes
Design your own exciting map and then learn how to make it feel and look old… using tea bags!

Alphabet Mazes
Find your favourite letter and see if you can escape to the other side of it, and then identify words that start with that letter.
