Keep those little hands busy these school holidays with bookable workshops, including LEGO, slime, art, comic books, construction site tours and loads of free daily activities – all around the theme of USE YOUR HANDS!

WORKSHOPS

An accompanying adult is required to attend all workshops (and encouraged to participate!) but no adult booking is necessary. Costs for workshops are additional to Discovery Space entry. 

NAIDOC Week Art, Weave & Dance Workshops
Celebrate Indigenous culture at our three NAIDOC Week workshops these school holidays. Discover how movement can be used for Aboriginal story-telling. Make your own bracelet or necklace using traditional Aboriginal weaving techniques. Paint your own canvas and learn about Aboriginal art and iconography.

Comics Alive!
Join us to create your own superhero comic and watch your hero come to life through the spinning motions of a zoetrope.

Happy Handz
Learn about the fascinating world of germs as we sing songs and get our hands messy with hands-on experiments.

Anne Donnelly: Author Reading and Signing
Join us for a special reading of Ori’s Clean-Up with author Anne Donnelly. Learn about our environment with engaging activities.

Oobleck Slime with Shellharbour City Library – BOOKED OUT
Inspired by the Lorax, children will create oobleck and their own city to ‘pollute’ with it to see the impact of pollution.
Dates: Thursday 11 July

Richard Crookes Construction Site Visit – BOOKED OUT
Come with us on a very special tour to see how buildings are made from the ground up. Wear your hard hat and vest to watch builders use specialist machinery.
Dates: Friday 12, Wednesday 17, Saturday 20 July
Time: 1pm
Ages: 2 years+
Price: FREE after entry, however bookings are required.
Places: 12 children

Please note closed-in shoes with flat soles are required for both children and adults. 

As all workshops are now full, we cannot transfer attendees to a different tour.

LEGO Robotics – BOOKED OUT
Learn to build and code a LEGO® robot! With our LEGO® WeDo sets you can build and code your own robots to solve all sorts of problems!
Dates: Sunday 14, Tuesday 16 July

Animal Encounters – 9.30am
Join us as we show you the amazing creatures that call the Discovery Space home, you could be helping feed our fish or learning all about our masters of disguise, phasmids (stick insects).
Suggested ages: 2 to 10 years

Storytime – 10am & 12pm
Because we’re talking about using your hands, our Storytime books will all explore this theme with added activities to get our listeners involved.
Suggested ages: all ages

Art – 10am – 2pm
We’ll be keeping little hands busy all term with amazing colour creations, paper bag puppets and fabulous finger painting. Each activity is designed to inspire the mind and excite the sensors.
Suggested ages: 1 to 10 years

Mini & Me – 10.30am
Join us in a special parent and baby bonding session where they practise their fine motor skills, improve their dexterity and develop their hand-eye coordination through play and songs.
Suggested ages: Birth to 2 years

Out & About – 11am
It’s time to get some fresh air! Step outside and be guided through an activity that use your inquiry skills, including digging for Egyptian artefacts and using your senses in the Discovery Garden.
Suggested ages: 2 to 10 years

Thinking & Making – 11.30
It’s time to let your imagination take the lead in a range of activities designed to develop creative thinking and cooperation. Learn how to work together as we create new worlds – large and small. 
Suggested ages: 3 to 10 years

Explorers – 1.30pm
Who doesn’t love a good adventure? You could be taking a close look at the wildlife or insects we may find in our gardens or joining the gold rush and searching for gold nuggets in our cave.
Suggested ages: 2 to 10 years

Time to Perform – 2pm
From the very LOUD to the very quiet, we explore what it takes to put on a show. Can you capture the crowd without making a sound, use your body as an instrument or make the perfect drum beat?
Suggested ages: 2 to 10 years

Get Active – 2.30pm
Whether it’s starting the day with some stretchy yoga, jumping through a trail of colours and shapes or playing a coordination game with a ball and dice, these activities are sure to get you moving.
