Join us for a jam-packed Term 3, with exciting events such as Science Week, Book Week, and don’t forget Talk Like a Pirate Day, me hearties! Join us for themed activities, art, storytime and most importantly – fun!

Traditional Weaving Techniques Workshop
Join Ally from Coomaditchie United Aboriginal Corporation as she shares traditional weaving techniques.Master the skill and make your very own creation to take home.
Date: Wednesday 14 August and Wednesday 11 September
Time: 10.00-11.00am
Ages: 3 + years
Price: FREE after entry. No bookings required, but places are limited.

SCIENCE WEEK 10 – 16 August 
Destination Moon: more missions, more science
We’ll be thinking big (as big as the moon!) and using experimentation to turn amazing ideas and wild thoughts into reality. All activities throughout the week will have a science focus. We’ll be testing different materials during Thinking and Making with Fabric – Fly or Fall. Journey to the moon on a space adventure during Get Active with our Parachute Play. Join us for a space-themed Storytime and make sure to visit our dress-up box for cosmic costumes!

BOOK WEEK 17 – 23 August 
Reading is my Secret Power
Come dressed as your favourite book character all this week, with prizes and giveaways for the best dressed. All activities throughout the week will have a focus on literacy, performance and different ways to use your voice. During Storytime we’ll be reading a selection of books from the Children’s Book Council of Australia awards list in various locations around the Discovery Space to highlight reading can be enjoyed anywhere!

FATHER’S DAY Sunday 1 September 
The best gift is that of play and time together, so join us for a day of fun family bonding. There will be a special Storytime (at 10am & 12pm) that will feature the book Kind. During our guided Art time (10am – 2pm) we’ll be making miniature felt puppets, a fun activity to do together as a family.

TALK LIKE A PIRATE DAY Thursday 19 September 
Arrr me hearties! If you love pirates (like we do) this event is not to be missed! There will be pirate dress ups, pirate stories, flag decorating art and hunting for buried treasures during Out & About. We’ll even be creating our own pirate fort, during Explorers plus learning how to tie ropes and knots for our pirate sailing expedition in Thinking & Making. So bring your best pirate voice and best pirate costume, ahoy mateys!!


Each of the nine themes below has several possible activities, so there’s always something new to do, no matter how many days you come to play. The Education Officer will choose the best activity for the visitors on the day.

Animal Encounters – 9.30am
Join us as we show you the amazing creatures that call the Discovery Space home, you could be helping feed our fish or learning all about our masters of disguise, phasmids (stick insects).
Suggested ages: 2 to 10 years

Storytime – 10am & 12pm
Join us in the Book Nook and pull up a cushion as we read a specially chosen book with added activities to get our listeners involved while instilling a love of reading.

Art – 10am till 2pm
Nothing sparks your imagination like art. We always have new and exciting guided and unguided art activities designed to inspire the mind and excite the sensors.
Suggested ages: 1 to 10 years

Mini & Me – 10.30am
Join us in a special parent and baby bonding session where they practise their fine motor skills and develop their hand-eye coordination through play and songs.
Suggested ages: Birth to 2 years

Out & About – 11am
It’s time to get some fresh air! Step outside and be guided through an activity that uses your inquiry skills in our Dig or Discovery Gardens.
Suggested ages: 2 to 10 years

Thinking & Making – 11.30am
Let your imagination take the lead in a range of activities designed to develop creative thinking and cooperation. Learn how to work together with fun games and tasks.
Suggested ages: 3 to 10 years

Explorers – 1.30pm
Who doesn’t love a good adventure? Step (just a little) outside your comfort as we explore the Discovery Space or create our own new worlds.
Suggested ages: 2 to 10 years

Time to Perform – 2pm
Boost your confidence with a range of activities that put you on centre stage. Can you keep a beat? Can you tell an awesome story? Let’s find out!

Get Active – 2.30pm
Put the screens away – we’re on a mission to get you moving! You might find yourself doing some stretchy yoga or playing a game that will get your heart racing!
