Research Study

Are you a current member of the Early Start Discovery Space?
Would you and your child like to take part in a research study examining your child’s creativity, collaboration, confidence, “can-do” attitude, and curiosity (referred to as the 5 C’s) and self-regulation? Researchers at Early Start are examining what changes are seen in the 5 C’s among children who visit the Early Start Discovery Space.

Am I eligible?
Children aged 3 years (or recently turned 4 years), who speak and understanding English, and whose parent/caregiver have an Early Start Discovery Space membership, are eligible to participate.

What does it involve?
We will ask your child to participate in a number of activities/games where their responses will be observed by researchers. Their responses will be recorded on paper, tablet and on some occasions using video recording. This will include the baseline or first assessment, then again at intervals of 6 and 12 months. We will ask each parent/caregiver to complete one questionnaire while their child participates in the activities/games.

Appointments (8am – 10am, 10am – 12pm, or 12:30pm – 2:30pm) are available on Mondays from 13 May to 8 July 2019.

For more info, please read the Participant Information Sheet.

Your child will receive a $20 Discovery Space gift shop voucher at each assessment (first assessment, 6-month follow-up, and 12-month follow-up). Assessments will occur at Early Start, at a time that suits you. Assessments will take approximately 2 hours.
